ELA News: Search for current event articles by topic.  Articles can be modified by lexile.  Short quizzes and answer keys are often available.

ThinkCERCA:  Search for non-fiction readings and high level writing prompts by Common Core Standards.

DogoNews:  Lower level news articles. The site can be searched by content area & articles can be embedded, printed, or e-mailed. 

ReadWorks:  Find passages, lessons, and comprehension questions by keywords, grade levels, lexile, etc.

Tween Tribune:  Readings and quizzes by lexile.  Sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute.

Lesson Plans

 

LearnZillion:  Database of lessons.  You can conduct a general search, browse, or select specific standards.

Better Lesson:  Database of lessons.  Search or browse for lessons based on standards.

Next Evolution:  List of EdTech tools, in categories, for integrating technology into lessons.

Graphite:  Search for lessons (by standard) that incorporate technology.  Graphite also has a review option.

Smithsonian: The Smithsonian's database of lesson plans. Each plan comes with all the materials you will need.

Achieve: Free content and plans that help teachers implement the Common Core standards.

Kids.gov:  Links to various government sponsored websites and lessons for teachers.

ReadWriteThink: Lesson plans and more focused on literacy.

 

Interactive Tools

Kahoot:  Create e-quizzes.  Students can join via any device that connects to the Internet.

Socrative:  Create e-quizzes and exit tickets that students can access.  See results live!

Poll Everywhere:  Create an e-poll.  It can be multiple choice or open ended.  The class can see the results in real time.

Bounce: No login required. Enter a website's URL and then comment on the screenshot. Your feedback can be shared with others, and they can continue commenting.

Digital Classrooms

 

Todaysmeet:  Create a digital classroom that students can join quickly.  Immediately begin digital conversations which can be displayed in real-time.

Edmodo:  Allows teachers to create a class, and then students can collaborate.  Also offers standards-aligned assessments.

Schoology:  An on-line learning management system.  You can post information, lessons, assignments, and discussion boards.  

Showbie: Assign, collect, mark-up, and give voiced comments on student work. 

Wikispaces: Create a members only wiki where you can have discussions and share documents.

Power Learning: Create a free account, and then search for activites, set up classes, and save assignments.

 

Video Creation

 

Touchcast:  A way to make videos interactive.  Embed links, documents, pictures, etc into your presentations.

Powtoon:  Create quick, animated videos by choosing objects for a "library".

Animoto:  Sign up for a free educator's account and create videos that can be shared.

Dvolver:  Create very very short animated clips.

Movenote: Free. Record presentations, add documents, create annotations, and then share.

Tellagami: (App Only) You can create an animated scene, record a dialogue, then save & share.

WeVideo:  Basic video making and sharing website.

Photo Peach:  Upload photos, add music, then create your slideshow. You can download if you upgrade.

BrainShark:  Add voiceovers to Powerpoints, documents, or videos.  Shareable.

Screencast:  Download.  Can record up to 15 minutes of screenshot or webcam.  Can convert to MP4 or FLV.

Haikudeck:  Presentation software.  Just enter images, information, etc. and publish.

Snapguide:  Create a simple "how to" guide that can be shared or e-mailed.

Blabberize:  Upload an image, record audio, and then make the image's mouth move in sync.

Voki:  Customize a character, add dialogue, and then share with others.

Graphic Organizers

Symbaloo: Compile all the website icons/links you want students to use on one page.

ThingLink:  Create an interactive image.  Hover over a part of the image to see a tag, link to a video, read notes, etc.

Sqworl:  A visual bookmarking tool.  Create a collection of links that others can access.

Infogram:  Create and share infographics -- free!  Create charts, word clouds, graphs, bubbles, etc.

Easel.ly:  Create infographics and charts that can be shared, for free.

Cacoo: Create and collaborate on diagrams, for free.

Piktochart: Using simple templates, create and share infographics for free.

Bubbl.us:  Create up to 3 mind maps, or bubble organizers.
