          School begins August 4, 2017.

Register for September 9th ACT by Aug 4th; register at; practice/prepare for ACT.

          Senior portraits, Aug 16th

          Pay $150 senior fee (there is a payment plan)

          Graduate Sales visit – date to be announced; they sell graduation announcements, hoodies, and other merchandise. You do not have to purchase from them, you have options: (a) local printing businesses, (b) computer programs to do-it-yourself, (c) internet companies that provide announcements, etc.



Gates Scholarship – 09.15 – deadline

          Labor Day Holiday, September 4th 

Graduate Sales usually takes orders in September

ACT – September 9, 2017


NSU Dream On Visit September 28th

          Register for October 28th ACT by Sept 22nd

          Start preparing college applications; most applications require a fee (usually a credit card must be used for payment); some applications require a 6-semester (end-of-junior-year) transcript, complete a transcript request form if you need a transcript sent to a school; some applications require an essay, so you may need to have it written and reviewed; this would be a good time to complete a resume’ of you high school career.


Homecoming – September 29, 2017

There are some national scholarships for which you can apply, e.g., Gates, Coca-Cola, Horatio Alger, etc. Just remember, students from all over the nation apply for these scholarships! There are several websites that identify these scholarships. Look at the Counselor’s Corner page on the MHS website.


          End of first 9 weeks, October 5th; report cards distributed during parent-teacher conferences, October 5th and 6th

Fall Break (Oct 9-13) – this is a great time to visit colleges/universities you are interested in attending. Call the colleges/universities and set up a tour!

          ACT – Oct 28th

DeSoto Parish College/Career Fair – October 26th – get information from colleges/universities

          You can start and submit your FAFSA beginning October 1, 2017 – set up a FSA ID; set up student/parent PIN; use parent tax info from 2016;

FALL FAFSA Workshop – October 24

Submit college applications – There are steps to applying for college on the Counselor’s Corner page on the MHS website; for several colleges/universities, the application for admission if the application for their institutional scholarships – apply early!    

Need help or information about financial aid?


          Register for December 9th ACT by Nov 3rd.

          School is out November 10th for Veterans’ Day  

          Submit college applications!

          Thanksgiving Break – November 20 – 24


          Fall Semester Finals and Fall EOCs

          ACT – Dec 9th 

          Last day of the Fall Semester: December 18th; Parent-Teacher Conferences, December 18th and 19th 



          Spring semester begins January 5th        

          Be sure to check your progress toward graduation!

          Register for the Feb 10th ACT by Jan 12th.  

          MLK Holiday – January 15th

          If you are a 3-year graduate, submit your graduation application by January 26th.

          By this time, you should have done/be doing the following:

1. ACT completed and scores sent to your possible schools (there are still a few more opportunities to take it, but you should have taken it at least once) 2. College/university applications submitted 3. Senior pictures taken/scheduled to take 4. National Scholarship applications submitted, if applicable 5. FAFSA process finished – if not, get with it! 6. Graduation invitations – Prepare your graduation invitation list and order invitations         


ACT – Feb 10th  


          President’s Holiday and Winter Break, February 19th – 23rd; no school for students on February 26th.

          “Local” scholarship applications usually begin arriving at MHS (hard copies will be available and most applications will be available on Counselor’s Corner page)


       Register for April 14th ACT by March 9th

          End of third 9 weeks, March 15th; report cards March 16th – no school for students!

          State ACT for Juniors and Seniors March 20th

Prom TBA

Good Friday Break – March 30th


          Easter Break – April 2nd-6th

ACT – April 14th  

          Be sure that all debts to the school are cleared.

          Be sure to return any IPADs, uniforms, books, calculators, etc. to MHS.


          EOC Testing

          MAY 2018 – Graduation!




Note: Most colleges and universities in the State of Louisiana will be able to get your final transcript from the State Department of Education – the final transcript may not be ready until mid-June. If you plan to attend a college/university in a state other than Louisiana, you will need a transcript to be sent to that college/university; please submit a transcript request form.
